Thermostatic Mixing Valves

Galway, Éire

We were requested to undertake the inspection of a university accommodation at this location. The site consisted of a number of accomodation blocks of several floors and all the acommodation was en-suite.The flats had been troubled with faulty valves from commissioning onwards. The initial problem was thought to be caused by detritus within the pipe system but even after a thorough cleaning the problems with over-temperature persisted and there was a danger of scalding. RAH Consultancy spent several days examining the system on site and stripping and inspecting a number of the valves. It was discovered that several valves were damaged internally. The cause of the damage appeared to be due to forces exerted during the valves normal operational use.A group of valves were selected at random and were subjected to a range of laboratory tests under the supervision of RAH Consultancy. The results of the site inspection and testing led us to recommend in our report that these valves were ineffective in the prevention of scalding and required replacement as soon as could be arranged.
