We had been asked to act as a joint independent expert in a matter concerning a plumbing dispute between two parties. We had been requested to visit the property in question, to examine the works carried out and to examine the parts statements, items averred to have been used and time sheets related to this matter. We were to inspect and comment upon the design and installation of the system with particular regard to the costs involved in the installation of the works. We advised that we attend at the property and inspect the source of the leakage and the installation of the equipment and its location. We relied, in the preparation of this report, upon the requirements of the "Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations, 1999"; and the WRAS "Water Regulations Guide". We have also relied on requirements of BS6700, "Design, installation, testing and maintenance of services supplying water for domestic use within buildings and their curtilages" where these apply to this system. In addition we had accessed various Plumbing Merchants Catalogues and the "Water Fittings and Materials Directory" so as to assess which water fittings could currently be considered fit for purpose. We were given permission to examine the plumber's working diary for reference purposes. We were dealing only with the plumbing system with regard to the quality of installation and not assessing the efficiency of its operation.
